by Rita A. Simonoff (Author)

This book is a historical fiction novel that takes place in rural Nebraska in the early 1900s. The protagonist is an ex Klu KLux Klan member who turns against the Order and attempts to destroy the prominence of the Klan's local leader. The Klan retaliates and forces the young man to become a fugitive, running and hiding in all different parts of the United States. He cannot settle down and lead a normal life because the Klan is always on his heels, threatening him and causing him to live in fear. Even his family members are sought out for revenge by the Klan and he blames himself for putting his family in such grave danger. He goes from one job to another and from one town to the next, always trying to escape the wrath of the Klan. He eventually meets and falls in love with the girl of his dreams, but he cannot marry her because he does not want to subject her to a life of runnin'. Because of just one decision, made when he was quite young, this young man's life is turned completely up-side-down and is at times unbearable. As he runs and hides, he learns many things about life and its complexities that he would not have experienced if he had stayed in his small hamlet in Nebraska. You, the reader, must decide if his fugitive existence is worth it.
