She spent her childhood as a field hand and house servant on a plantation near Independence, Missouri. When the Civil War broke out she was take as contraband in service of the Union Army. After the battles ended, Cathay found herself to be and uneducated black woman who only knew two things, being a slave and war. Rather than attempting to earn a living on her back, she chose to disguise herself as a man named William Cathay and start a journey that will earn her a place in American folklore and legend. She was a Buffalo Soldier Book One is the first in a four part book series that will chronicle the life and trials of this unique and special woman.
