This book provides an opportunity for parents and teachers to introduce the topic of sadness or depression to young children. A social story format was used to help children with special needs identify challenging life stressors and develop healthy coping strategies. Sadness in children may present itself as irritability (a surface emotion). However, the underlying cause of anger should be explored to reduce maladaptive behaviors. This book can encourage children to discuss their sad feelings with adults.
