Her efforts are directed mostly toward gardeners in the Southern coastal regions, including North and South Carolina, the lower parts of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, upper Florida, and coastal Texas. Stewart refers to gardening as a delightful therapy. She wrote her gardening book, The Southern Gardener, as a response to her own love of gardening and as an answer to the many questions people have asked her over the years.
