Journey to Lubbock, where memories of one lost are still as vivid as when she first left. A mom and her daughters spend their first New Year together since her husband's death, but their mourning is altered by an accident. An elderly widow is ready to end it all, when unexpected visitors appear at her doorstep. A murder investigation includes a CPS worker and her memories of three teenagers, all beaten and painted ruby. A man ponders his youth in a Galveston orphanage, and how the great storm of 1900 changed his life. A holy place where armadillos go to test their worthiness.
