by Curtis Hidden Page (Translator), Molière (Author)

Tartuffe, or The Impostor, or The Hypocrite, first performed in 1664, is one of the most famous theatrical comedies by Moli re. The characters of Tartuffe, Elmire, and Orgon are considered among the greatest classical theatre roles. The play is a satire on religious hypocrisy. Tartuffe worms his way into Orgon's household, blinding the master of the house with his religious "devotion," and almost succeeds in his attempts to seduce his wife and disinherit his children before he is unmasked.
