Since leaving his publishers, John had started to self-publish his work. What once started as a bit of an industry joke had suddenly become a viable means of getting your work "out there". The problem was, by leaving his publisher and all they offered, his work had taken a down-turn. The covers were shoddy, the work wasn't as thoroughly edited as it used to be and people were starting to notice. His ex-publishers had noticed.
