by James Duggan (Author)

The book 'The Driving Instructor Business' presented by 'It's a Drivers World' has been prepared primarily for the benefit of those people who are considering becoming a driving instructor and who have no experience of either that or indeed running a small business. However, it will also be of great value to those trainee instructors who want to know more about the business they are getting into and who are not receiving this guidance from their current trainers Indeed newly qualified instructors will find it of great benefit in helping them through the initial first twelve months or so especially if they have been abandoned to their fate by their trainers now that they have qualified. This book sets out in simple language what is expected of a driving instructor and covers not just the actual business side, but also background material on how to become one and the sort of knowledge and information you would be expected to acquire and pass on to your pupils.

Author Biography

JIM DUGGAN spent almost a quarter of his working life in the driver training business both as a first class driving instructor and latterly involved in the training of instructors. With a pass rate of 78% at a time when the general pass rate was only 32% he has a proven track record which served his pupils well. Having driven an estimated one million miles or more since passing his test in 1965 and with all the experience that gives an astute observer he has a wealth of knowledge to pass on to newly qualified A.D.I.s, trainee instructors and learners alike. Having now retired from the practical side of the business he wants to pass on all that experience to anyone who may benefit from it. Whilst running his school most trainees were coming from industry based backgrounds and this would be their first venture into actually being responsible for their own future and running a business, albeit on a small scale. Quite apart from their apprehension concerning the value for money of their initial financial outlay it was even more apparent and understandable that they had many questions on their mind about how to go about things generally which needed answering. Training was frequently interrupted with asides which tried to deal with these underlying concerns and Jim realised that doing so in such a piecemeal fashion was not really in keeping with the professional approach he was trying to develop and apply in the training process. Something had to be done about it, but he was not quite sure what? As a starting point he decided to keep a file detailing all the various concerns of the trainees and proceeded to develop comprehensive written answers to all their queries. Over a period of time this file grew to be more than just a few written handouts and became quite extensive in its' content and coverage of the business of being a driving instructor. The usefulness and benefits of the notes were fairly well appreciated, but he wanted to make the information they contained available to a wider audience. He started by building a website offering digital versions of his various publications regarding driver training, all of which are available at www.itsadriversworld.com. However, there are still many who would prefer to work from a traditional book so here it is - 'THE DRIVING INSTRUCTOR BUSINESS'.
