An abandoned child in the deep south runs away from orphanages and learns to live on the streets of Jacksonville, Florida for several years. At last he is sent to the reform school in Marianna, Florida where he and other children are brutalized and he witnesses at least one murder. A very graphic description of the terrible beatings received by the children for even minor rule infractions. Some boys were beaten to death and buried in graves as shallow as eighteen inches.
