by Major Sir Hubert Young (Author)

"The Independent Arab" is a 1933 memoir by Major Sir Hubert Winthrop Young. Major Sir Hubert Winthrop Young (1885-1950) was an English Liberal Party politician, soldier, diplomat and colonial governor. He spent most of career in the Middle East and moved to Iraq in 1929. Young was knighted in 1934 for his work as a diplomat, and in 1942 he returned to London. He organised European relief work until his retirement in 1945. This fascinating travelogue-cum-memoir concerns his diplomatic and military time in the Middle East between 1919 and 1932, making it one not to miss by those with an interest in British colonial history. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in a modern, high-quality edition complete with the original text and artwork.
