A young Irish housemaid from Boston travels half way across the country in the 1870s to try to establish a Brahman life style at a wild west Army fort. She takes early trains to St. Louis where she marries, before she and her new husband take the dangerous steamboat trip 2300 miles up the Missouri River to Fort Benton, Montana.
