Before he makes his transformation he is visited in his dreams by a guardian butterfly. The guardian tells him that in order to become a butterfly he must help others in his community by performing good deeds. The little caterpillar chooses to help the youngest members in his community to understand that helping others and being kind has rewards that last a lifetime.
