Born and raised in small town Milford, Iowa, Keith Luchtel's family and community instilled values that had a lifelong impact on him. The other "family" that greatly impacted his life were the members of the Class of 1964 at the United States Air Force Academy, especially those in the 19th Squadron. Keith recounts his life, the people in it, and some of the lessons learned along the way. He discovered how much World War II influenced his life and that of his family. That discovery gave him an additional perspective on how much his wars in Vietnam and other places influenced his life and cast shadows he is only now coming to understand.
