The children in story re-encounter the Psammead-the "it" in Five Children and It. "It" no longer grants wishes to the children, but advises in the children's other discovery, the Amulet. Like os story of time travel, The Story of the Amulet is one in which "Nesbit's powers of invention are at their best.
