Author and illustrator Birgit Ruotsala is inspired to write and illustrate books about her love for Scandinavian culture. The world of tomtes that Birgit learned about as a child is the subject of her stories, and through her stories, she hopes to share a little Scandinavian culture with others. Her tomte friends are a bit mischievous, but always loving.
Each tomte family is assigned to a human family. Their job is to help and watch over the family, homestead, and animals. Because tomtes are shy around humans, they most often are not seen, but they are busy and hardworking.
This story is about all the food preparations that lead up to the Christmas Eve Smörgåsbord. Join this journey as the traditional foods are gathered and prepared and enjoyed.
