Author Biography

A son of ex-slaves, Emmett J. Scott (1873-1957) for many years served as confidant, secretary and speechwriter for Booker T. Washington. During World War I he was appointed Special Assistant to the Secretary of War. Other works include "Tuskegee and Its People" and (as co-author) "Booker T. Washington, Builder of a Civilization."
