Emperor Deverin has finally succeeded in defeating the treasonous General Crom and his rebel forces but at a terrible cost to his own armies. Now the Emperor struggles to regain his power base and to secure the borders of Barklif once again. The Emperor's generals are fearful to tell him the actual deteriorating state of his military lest he has them killed in a fit of rage. The generals know their border forces are weakened and begin to move elements of soldiers around to help compensate the weakest spots. One risk they take is to move a large group of soldiers from their northernmost border. A place of mystery and one that Barklif has not been able to conquer. They fearfully call it the Unknown Region.
The Coalition of Free Kingdoms have created a strong opposition to the Barklif Empire. Now the time has come to free the Kingdom of Brik from Emperor Deverin's ruthless control. Aided by the Bluumtu and their ogre-controlled kantars, the Rangers from Redthorn work to undermine the Barklif Empire to further weaken its infrastructure.
This begins an adventure for Sir Sykes and his team who unwittingly venture into the Unknown Region and deep into the Barklif Empire itself. Unbeknownst to others of the team and even Sykes himself, the dwarf brothers Diggle and Doink have been charged with clandestinely protecting Mirela and the secret she holds.
