by Fred C. Moor III (Author)
F.C., "Doc" Moor started flying in the early 30's. The outbreak of WWII led him to a primary flight instructor job at Carlstrom Field in Arcadia, Florida. He joined the Army Air Force and became a pilot on the Fireball Express with 63 Atlantic crossings to his credit. A leased C-47 and a loan from his mother helped him start Southern Air Transport in 1947. A lot of hard work and the ability to recognize and capitalize on some opportunities let the company grow to a modestly successful operation until there was a knock on the door in 1960 . . . from the CIA
Fred C. Moor III worked for his father at Southern Air Transport during vacations and school breaks. He moved to Arizona for his health in 1954 and was a banker for 33 years after graduating University of arizona in 1955. He now resides in Casa Grande, Arizona with his wife, Mary Alice and is Finance Manager for a Head Start organization serving over 1000 needy children in two Arizona counties.
