The author's stories about growing up in a midwest farm town before television offer the reader an opportunity to live vicariously the adventures of a young Missouri boy who enjoyed the freedom to roam the town and countryside while being watched over by a whole community. Since most of us now live in urban areas, there are few youngsters today who know the freedom that the author took for granted in my youth. The later stories are accounts of a country boy who chose to live in a much larger world than he imagined as a child.
