Tracy Chevalier creció en Washington y ya desde edad temprana mostró interés por el mundo de los libros, escribiendo sus primeros relatos cortos en el instituto. A los 22 años se mudó a Reino Unido, donde trabajó durante un tiempo en varias editoriales.
