The old world is gone. And so are his parents.
A year after a virus decimated the world's population, Andrew, a sixteen-year-old kid from northern California, finds his parents murdered by a rogue militia.
With his hometown under siege, he is forced to escape into the unforgiving Nevada desert. Andrew's fight for survival takes a dramatic turn when he crosses paths with Kaya, a fiery and fiercely independent city girl with her own demons to face.
As they navigate the desolate wilderness while being pursued by bloodthirsty marauders and relentless dangers, Andrew and Kaya must confront their differences and forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must summon every ounce of strength and courage to endure a world that seems determined to crush them.
Will they overcome their differences or will they too fall to this harsh and unforgiving new world?
