We - Paperback

by Yevgeny Zamyatin (Author)

We by Yevgeny Zamyatin is a seminal dystopian novel about One State where citizens, identified by numbers rather than names, live in perfect, glass-walled conformity. The story follows D-503, a brilliant mathematician and engineer overseeing the construction of the Integral, a spaceship designed to subjugate other planets to the One State's order. D-503 is a loyal and happy cog in the machine until he meets the rebellious, mysterious I-330, who introduces him to the idea of an individual soul, illegal emotions, and rebellion. A sterile world where individual identity is suppressed, dreams are considered a sign of mental illness, and life is governed by mathematical logic. A classic, witty, and chilling work of early science fiction that critiques unchecked authoritarianism and the mechanization of humanity.
